Technology News: Mobile Phones, Cell Connection, Devices, GPS
05 9th, 2008

Finally I decided to take a break from work and plan a new vacation for myself, or maybe if I won’t have that much time just going on one of these nice Weekend Breaks somewhere in Prague or maybe just northern European destination where I can relax, away from cities noise.

I thought this time I will go with Dialaflight as been the leading UK travel company let alone their site always full of useful and previous information for travelers like myself who are often clueless about the destination they are going to visit. What I like about their online agency also is that I can search for flights, hotels, and even spas — all in one place, which makes the process of arranging my vacation much, much earlier. I really can wait to have a small break from writing reviews of mobile phones and software and go on an unforgettable weekend, but don’t worry, this blog won’t be forsaken!

PDA’s are Personal Digital Assistant that brings technology in the palm of your hand. They are also known as small or palmtop computers. They are used as mini portable computers for carrying around and working on Operating Systems (OS). Earlier PDA’s were mostly touch screen and only later turned into color. Now PDA’s have combined with mobile phone technology to give out Smart phones, which serve multiple purposes pertaining to mobile usage and even computers handling.

Smart phones have no rigid definition to their identity. A phone supporting an OS and making use of higher end applications which aren’t used by most mobile phones or combine more user friendly applications relating to entertainment or utility are considered as Smart phones. These self defined Smart phones have come a long way. E-mails and using office applications on phone have become a regular feature for these devices. They are now starting to include GPS (Global Positioning System), i.e. providing detailed map of a place in your cell. This for the first time is introduced by Nokia in India. Though GPS was not permitted in India a bill has been recently passed and the usage is now allowed. With GPS even the tiniest turn can be detected and one would not be lost in the webbed road connections of India.

Smart phones also offer enhanced entertainment options Read the rest of this entry »

For some time now Call Conference has became a part of our daily routine, with distant chats available on the market, we need not travel anymore and waste time in airports and traffic, all we need is a good Call Conferencing equipment that will allow us to hold an Audio Conference with high quality sound. One of the best providers for such service is a UK-based, low cost Conference Genie. You might want to ask how low are their prices, so just to give you a general idea -  smallest plan starts from 3 pence per minute, which I am sure you would agree is extremely low considering you pay for pure quality. There are no registration fees and you can even call from abroad.

Moreover, and this is a truly breathtaking option: you can record your calls, but don’t worry, they are all very secure. You can invite up to 100 people to your conference call, would that be enough for a little group conversation? ;)

On Friday 21s March 2008 the first ever mobile call on a plane was made on a flight between Dubai and Casablanca. The call was made as an authorised test on an Emirates flight.

Ofcom have since announced that they have approved the use of mobile phones on planes within EU airspace. Ofcom hopes that the plans will come together as soon as practically possible, and we could see mobile phone calls on planes as early as this year!

There is a lot of planning that needs to be made before calls can be made, it is not as simple as being allowed to switch your phone on and call your mum. Aircraft will have to be fitted with a base station, which can only be turned on by the plane staff once the plane is at an altitude of 3,000 metres. You will then be able to use 2G for voice and text, and Ofcom hope that 3G will be available once this proves successful.

Now the call charges will not have the EU cap applied to them, and no word has been said yet on the possible costs for a call from a mobile on a plane, but Ofcom have vowed to monitor the situation closely. Read the rest of this entry »
