As this first decade of the 21st Century draws to a close, so also does the age of analog. When it comes to communications, analog has served humanity long and well, but the old technology is being phased out by governments and manufacturers alike, and within ten years, the old analog systems will likely be a technological footnote to history. Put simply, analog equipment cannot compete with the capacity of digital and, as a result of simple economics, it is destined to dwindle away. Of course, analog systems made sense when first created, for analog signals are able to duplicate virtually any natural phenomena, such as sound or light, which are analog inherently because they are infinitely variable.

With analog systems of communications, the biggest problem has always been noise. While analog offers the infinite variability that replicates the natural state of sound or light, converting those phenomena into an electrical signal and then back again into a sound or an image creates “noise.” The term is used because it can literally produce noise in an audio system – the hiss or rumble that is heard in poor quality recordings. Noise also shows itself in the grain or “snow” that can trouble a TV signal. Noise affects an electronic signal at every stage of the communications process, and its effects add up. Can stars get closer?

For many years now I have been looking for a good pair of binoculars, however it’s not easy to find a high quality product. I was particularly interested in night vision binoculars, so that I could watch the wild nature (and yeah, there are even cheetahs in my area!) close like never before. I came to realize that choosing binoculars is perhaps the hardest task; apart from a few technology requirements like certain zoom and night vision facility, they also have to have a good pair of lenses that won’t get blurry after a few months. Eventually I did not find anything, but a good friend of mine recently purchased binoculars from Anacortes Telescope & Wild Bird, and was fairly impressed by the price and the quality of the product, as well as their online service. Today I finally had the chance to have a look at their website and the variety can impress anyone’s imagination. The prices are not the cheapest, but we have to bear in mind that there are no high quality binoculars at low price.  Their website even gave me an idea of buying a telescope, so I can finally watch the falling stars right from my window, and try to catch the stardust.

Once upon a time only the astrologists and astronomy scientists  had telescopes, now every can, eh!

You might be a football fan, a movie buff, or non-English speaker who is missing watching channels in his/her native language – you think of an opportunity to watch live satellite TV of your choice as a God-send. Well, probably, you are not aware of the news, but the technology did make it happen – now you can watch thousands of live satellite TV channels, including ones that are not available anywhere in North America, even with the biggest paid satellite and cable TV providers!

What is even better – you can watch live satellite TV anywhere as long as you have a PC or laptop and an Internet connection available. In the office or while traveling – now you don’t have to sacrifice your favorite game and miss serial episodes. You can enjoy watching movies 24/7 and forget about pay-per-view mode.

Expand your outlook and watch all sorts of channels from all over the globe – both in English and local languages. The latest revolutionary product called satellite TV for PC software has made many dreams come true.

Of course, speaking about options to watch live satellite TV on computer (which means mobility and convenience), the software is not the only method. Free satellite TV streaming websites make a good alternative if you have found what you need in the very limited number of channels they provide.

Unfortunately, a slow streaming speed is a frequent complaint from the users. Other online satellite TV providers charge a monthly or per-view fee, which may be cheaper than what you would pay to your regular satellite TV company, but still quite a costly option. Read the rest of this entry »

Webmasters today are unable to imagine life without a shared hosting provider, right? Where will we host all our websites and how will we manage if not through a virtual hosting service? However, it’s always very important to pick the right company that will be both affordable and supply us with all we need. One of such solutions that I know of and a several of my friends use are Concentric Business Solutions. They offer a wide variety of hosting and registration services optimized for small business companies. Apart from hosting they also provide a domain name registration, email hosting, as well as few free add-ons including spam filters and virus protection.

From personal experience I can tell that having all the host-related issues supplied by the same provider is idea, because if you need help, everything is nested under one roof and you can fully rely on your remote host to manage all the shared hosting questions. As said already, it’s idea for small business companies with limited budget, who want to get the maximum for their hosting fee.

Throughout their recent history, mobile ringtones have been an important part of mobile phone industry and affected users from all over the world by means of new styles generated in the meantime. Having an efficient history, mobile ringtones seem to have a bright future in the following few years. How rational is this idea? We are going to try to answer this question by examining the causes of the success of mobile ringtones in the past and reach a conclusion following the same mechanism.

With the advent of polyphonic mobile ringtones, also known as new generation ringtones, people aimed by such recreational advances have been more and more interested in such features. An important outcome of this interest was the increasing popularity of polyphonic mobile ringtones, which brought about some differences in composition of the sequence of the music produced and new styles in the toning standards. Mobile phone manufacturers began to take care of user interest and produced more user friendly phones, which resulted in a larger community for mobile phone users.

The came the ear of polyphonic mobile ringtones in which monophonic ringtones were abandoned for the sake of the new technology aimed at young users. Monophonic ringtones started to be observed as those to go into trash, so polyphonic mobile ringtones gained remarkable amount of popularity. Mobile phone manufacturers, too, drifted their way to aim at user interest and produce more advanced stuff for new generation mobile phone users.

With the above analysis, we now have a solid background on which we can establish a projection for the future of mobile ringtones. It is also noteworthy that we must speak about the future of polyphonic mobile ringtones here since monophonic ringtones are considered only as a peripheral which would help the former in the entire industry. Still, we have to utter the historical importance of the former and the way in which they were converted into polyphonic ringtones. Had we not experienced the above fact, there would be different outcomes of monophonic mobile ringtones. Furthermore, they would remain intact as the time passed by, and we would not seek for an alternative for them in the meantime. Read the rest of this entry »

Mobile Phone Softwares

Author: admin
02 17th, 2008

A mobile is set to do the functionality which is embedded in it at the time of its manufacturing. The software which is embedded in it is known as software or firmware. A common mobile phone can not perform any functionality beyond the scope of that firmware. The firmware is designed and developed by the manufacturing company and is distinct for every model of the mobile phones.
But in the modern mobile phones, which have more sophisticated operating systems support the installation of the third-party software. This is just like computer that a computer can perform some basic functionality but in order to get some additional functionality, some third-party softwares are installed.

Different Mobiles and Supported Softwares

Usually the software developed for one model of a mobile phone won’t work on the other but the developers who develop the software make slight changes in the software so that they can run on the other models too. Also different companies may have their mobile phones based on different technology and firmware; therefore one particular software has to be developed for different platforms. Like one model of mobile phone can run java software on it, but the other is based on Symbian technology. Consequently the company will have to develop their software for both the platforms.

There is a format which provides the user to access all the functionalities of the handset, this format is called BREW. As this format allows full access to the functionalities of the handset therefore its development process is modified mainly by the software vendors. It is freely available but to run the software on the mobile hardware a digital signature is required which can be obtained by tools issued only to mobile phone manufacturer. This free kit is known as BREW SDK (Software Development Kits). To download this software (even after one gets the digital signature) on regular phone the software is tested by the Qualcomm (developers of BREW) with the help of their TRUE BREW testing software.

A Look on Available Third-Party Softwares

Nowadays there is a huge variety of softwares available for any given handset. Some of the softwares are free (freeware), others will have to be bought to use them. There are softwares available for every type of mobile users. For people who want to stay in touch with internet there are browsers and instant messenger clients available. There are a lot of games available which do not let you bore in your leisure time. For business professionals and students there are document viewers and editors which can let you use documents created in Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office. For the artists and designers there are image viewers and editors. And some softwares are simply developed to be used for fun.

Mobile Games

Mobile Games have the biggest share in the softwares that are developed for the mobile phones. Mobile games are developed using platforms and technologies such as Windows Mobile, Palm OS, Symbian OS, Macromedia’s Flash Lite, Sun’s J2ME (Java 2 Micro Edition, recently re named simply “Java ME”), Qualcomm’s BREW (Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless). Other platforms are also available, but they are not so common.
Java was initially the most common platform for mobile games; however its performance limitations have led to the adoption of various native binary formats for more sophisticated games.

Mobile softwares have simply enhanced the functionality of the mobile phones many folds. They make a dull device very interesting and useful.
